Going to the other side of “middle age” made me start thinking. What do I want it to be like when I am the other side of “after middle age”? I know that exercise is a critical part of keeping the body fit, but I had fallen out of my prior running, dancing, aerobics, etc. for a number of years. I started with Carol when I was 66 years old. I have since been going to yoga five days a week for over two years. I certainly was not comfortable for a number of months after I started yoga, but I knew this was the path for me. So much more than being physically fit has occurred in my life due to this practice. There are various physical attributes that have blessed me such as sleeping very well all night, curing my tennis elbow, taking the pain out of my lower back, taking the pain out of my right knee, and many other physical mendings. But one of the best things is in my attitude towards life. I have always been a strong achiever, a go getter, a very intense “get ‘er done” kind of woman. Now I am enjoying my life. I am taking time to smell the roses; the roses are in front of me sharing there beautiful scent and ambiance. Along with “get ‘er done” is a self-critical persona that has ridden my back my entire life. Its voice is quiet now. But with this critical demon comes the inability to do some things because I felt I could not measure up. Carol has been so supportive and uncritical that this “special Olympics” body has been able to do poses never imaginable for a woman who started out at such a late time in life. If you want Carol to push you, ask her. If you are a bit shy or self-critical, she will know and take good care of you.
Okay peeps, time for an update. Everything I said prior is still true, but my life has changed quite a bit since then. Last December (2013) I created a horse and buggy crash, fractured my neck, popped out an eyeball and generally really hurt myself. I was in the hospital for 18 days...quite a while actually. After I got home, Carol came to my house and I started yoga in bed. We proceeded to on the floor yoga in my sitting room and then standing yoga in the sitting room. I came back to the studio and started what I call "pansy ass" yoga but Carol doesn't call it that. I got my neck brace off last week, what a relief, and am planning on starting the 7:00 a.m. yoga soon.
Okay, kids, this is as good as it gets. All the doctors I have gone to cannot believe I am doing as well as I am. I tell them it is the yoga, but they don't listen. If you want to do well, join me in yoga.
First comes the commitment. Then the transformation will follow.

Why I do yoga
Doing yoga helps me to release stress; when the stress leaves my body I am better able to focus and concentrate in my day-to-day life activites.
Doing yoga keeps my body in better shape than running, swimming, or going to the gym.
I really like the laid back and open teaching style. It helps me understand the yoga and makes class fun.
Doing yoga is so much more than just another exercise class and I would recomend it to just about everyone.

At the beginning of 2013, I had the opportunity to experience Hot Yoga for the first time. I had tried Yoga in the past and enjoyed it. One of the reasons why I had not attended before was lack of time and just laziness. At first I did not know what to expect from Hot Yoga. I knew it would help me and that it would be a type of exercise.
After my first class with Carol Kissler and her detailed explanation of the benefits of each pose, I realized that Yoga was not just "an exercise". It would also help me with soul, mind and body, inside and out. Each pose helps me relax, meditate and understand my body. This has changed the way I eat, think and act. My eating habits have improved. Now I eat healthier foods that actually sit well with my body and digestive system. My mentality is also better. I think more positively. I try to find a positive or good thing out of something bad. Having a better attitude makes my soul be at peace.
When I finish each class I am so wiped out that I just want to go home and crash. However, having a positive attitude and enjoying the class makes me keep coming back. When there are times that for one or another reason I have not been able to attend, my body recognizes and begs me to return. Hot Yoga is great! I have recommend it to several family members and friends and will continue to recommend it. I know there are many more things that Carol can teach me that will benefit me.
Thanks Carol!
